Giving doesn’t have to be boring. We had so much fun with the lovely kids at an orphanage in Mauritius.

GIVE

There’s a line in Dahlia that goes, “If you can, give, and if you can’t, give then too.” It’s my favourite line in the novel and a philosophy I enforce in my own life.

Right now, I don’t have 2 cents to my name, I’m living off my credit cards whilst trying to build a business, yet I refuse to cancel my monthly charity donations.

Over the years, I’ve consistently donated to all manner of charities. World Vision, The Healing Foundation, National Breast Cancer Foundation, Green Peace, The Wilderness Society, Medicine Sans Frontier, Unicef, Oxfam, The Mcgrath Foundation, International Justice Mission plus enough GoFundMe’s to buy a small island.

What charity does best is take the “self” out of your actions. It’s ok I’m not blaming you. The system is jerry-rigged to make us focus on ourselves with little regard for the people outside our immediate circle.

We, the human race, aren’t meant to operate as individuals. We are pack animals and social creatures, not lone wolves. We are supposed to lift our fellow man up, take care of the downtrodden, support the less fortunate and spread our hard-earned wealth beyond our orbit.

It’s not good enough to say, “That’s why I pay taxes,” or, “That’s the government’s job.”

Fuck that. We MUST help.

The government is too lumbering and massive to catch everyone. It needs us, the little guys, to get in there, roll our sleeves up and get our hands dirty. Whether that be physically (soup kitchens, community clean-ups, protesting, disaster volunteering or any other way of giving your time and energy.) Or by handing over your cash to a cause you believe in (the list of worthy charities is longer than the extended version of The Lord of The Rings.)

Charity attempts to realign our broken system and brings us back together. But it needs our help.

So, I’m going to make this super easy for you guys. I’m giving 10% of ALL my book sales to charity. For Dahlia, the proceeds will go to Beyond Blue. For Travel Infinity, 10% of the proceeds will go to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.

Don’t wait; order your copy of Dahlia now and start giving back today! 😊

NB: Scientists believe that altruistic behaviour releases endorphins into the brain, giving the giver a “helpers high”. Ipso facto, if you buy one of my books, technically speaking, we’ll be getting high together. Now, how can that be a bad thing?
